Northeast Florida Eagles Day 23&25, Upper Mississippi River Eagle Trio, Bald Eagle HK, Anderson Cooper Donates K-9 Vests

It was a wet day at the Northeast Florida Eagle nest. The babies were trying to hide under Mom...

...and Zoomer took the opportunity to give us a nice close-up of some pin feathers:

There was a police K-9 in nearby Norfolk that was recently shot and killed while apprehending a man. He was a Belgian Malinois, which is what one of my dogs is. (She's my avatar...) Here's a story about Anderson Cooper donating the funds to outfit the department's K-9s with bullet-proof vests. I'm not familiar with Anderson Cooper. But that's a stand-up thing that he did. Bravo!

Berry College Eagles Mom Needs A Hard Hat, Loch of the Lowes Osprey Update, White-bellied Sea Eagles Day 93, Belgian Malinois Diego

At the Berry College Eagle nest, Dad brought a piece of lumber to the nest. Mom ducked, but she still got clocked in the head. Mom Needs A Hard Hat (3:59):

There is a tracking update for the Loch of the Lowes Osprey. And there's a second post showing where the Osprey are wintering.

The White-bellied Sea Eaglet SE15 is settled in at the zoo and is receiving care from their vets. He is eating well, gaining 1.3 pounds in his first two days of care. Here are a couple of updates on what's happening with SE16, who isn't spending time in the nest any more. So the ground reports keep us updated. Here's one update. Check out this dog that is helping to keep rhinos safe. He is a Belgian Malinois named Diego, and he's a bad-ass! The dog in my avatar is my dog Daisy, a Belgian Malinois mix. She is the smartest dog I've ever had, smarter than my Shelties!

Snow at Berry College Day 12&14, Bald Eagle HK and Sterling, Ocean Life Video, Unlikely Friends

I've got lots of s'caps from today from the Berry College nest. I was grabbing a s'cap of the babies and at that exact second Mom landed in the nest. I couldn't get this shot on purpose if I tried!

A short time later, Dad brought in food (a Coot) that he had already dined on. It was a bloody mess... The babies are peeking out from under Mom. So cute!

Mom fed the babies, both getting bites.

Then she did a big stretch.

I saw the first snow flakes at 2:56, not even visible in this s'cap.

But this was the scene 10 minutes later:

Here's a link to a short video from today almost an hour after it started snowing. This shows how well-insulated birds are. The snow piles up on Mom Berry. If she were losing body heat, the snow would melt. Instead, it just piles up, then slides off when she moves. And she's keeping the babies warm and dry underneath her.

Here's what the nest looked like at 6:55PM this evening, right before the IR cam turned on. The snow is piling up and it's still snowing pretty hard at this time. (The cams are currently down...)
