Harrison Bay Eagles, White-bellied Sea Eagles Day 18

I didn't see much at the Harrison Bay Eagle nest today. There was an Osprey that visited the area...

We briefly saw one of the Eagle parents in the tall pine where they like to perch.

It didn't stay very long... See the white and brown streak heading down to the right?

The size difference between SE15 and SE16 is so remarkable at the White-bellied Sea Eagle nest. I'm starting to be concerned for SE15.

They are both getting bites during their feedings and I've not seen much sibling rivalry lately.

They are both just as cute as can be!

Look at the size difference! I'm worried that SE15 might have something wrong with it. Or, it could just be that SE15 is a very small male and SE16 is a very large female. Time will tell...

It's currently pouring at the nest and Mom is doing her best to keep the babies warm and dry.

I found some videos by liberty1998 of Mom and Dad not handling the wind very well. This first one is from August 4th of Mom being blown off of the eggs (0:49).

I saw a Bald Eagle flying over my neighborhood today. That always makes me happy!

Loch of the Lowes Osprey Day 1 First Hatch!

The Scottish Wildlife Trust's Loch of the Lowes Osprey had their first hatch today - during the overnight hours! I have some s'caps of the family from today, day 1... But I can't post them yet because I'm still uploading the video from today. I slogged through 11 hours of video... I got it down to 8.5 minutes. But it came up with 3 hours to upload and it's got 2 hours still. So, I'll update this post tomorrow with s'caps and the video.

Here's the first look at the baby. It's just in front of Mom and can be located by its eye stripe.

This is the first (and only) bite that I saw it take.

Harrison Bay Eagles Day 52&54 Branch Watch, White Rock Eagles Day 30&31, Loch of the Lowes Osprey Hatch Watch Day 2, Ozzie Moved to Large Flight Pen!, Bald Eagle HK Updates

The Harrison Bay Eaglets are flirting with branching. I expect to see them out on the branches soon. Here's one enjoying the morning light on its face.

Here's a good comparison of their sizes, since they are I a similar post and equidistant from the camera. Does one look bigger than the other?

Both eaglets look to be sizing up the branches.

I guess they are talking about it...


Thinking about that branch again... The eaglets were in and out of this area several times today.

It was a pretty evening at the White Rock nest. The babies are getting bigger.

They both are starting to do a little flapping.

The Scottish Wildlife Trust's Loch of the Lowes Osprey are still incubating three eggs here at the start of hatch watch for them. The eggs are visible here:

Coming back from a quick break.

Dad brought in a huge clump of moss.

Just a pretty scene. I love the look of this nest!

The male resident of the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam nest, Ozzie, was moved into a large flight pen yesterday. He will have 2-3 weeks in the pen to strengthen his flight muscles before being released back into the wild. You can see a video of him taking his first flight on their CROW's Facebook page.

I think that we will see this revolving door of females until HK has a successful nesting season with one of them. I think raising offspring will form the pair bond and his days of sowing wild oats will be over. Like father, like son...

Berry College Eagles Day 30&32 -- Hot Day, Osprey Are Back!

How can you tell when a Bald Eagle is hot?

Spread out even more... She stayed like this for a while.

There was a good feeding while I was watching, with both chicks getting bites. There were some pretty big bites too.

Here's a video from this feeding. Mom first shows the chicks how to swallow a bone. Then she offers a bone to one of the chicks. Watch this video to see what the chick does... The video is 3:45 minutes.

That's a big, boney bite!

The Osprey have returned to the area! Spring is almost here. I saw three Bald Eagles and two Osprey this morning. (One Bald Eagle and two Osprey were flying together. And then two younger Bald Eagles were flying together.) Of course, nobody else even noticed them until I pointed them out. I don't know how these huge birds can fly overhead and call out and people don't even look up to check them out!

Berry College Fledgling Day 91, Nest Cam Round-up: Hays, Two Harbors, White Rock, and Loch of the Lowes

Today is day 91 for the Berry College Fledgling. I brought up the approach cam first and was happy to find someone home!

It was not the fledgling, but was one of the adults, eating a fish.

This is about 45 minutes later -- probably the other parent, eating another fish. (I know this is a different fish since I saw the entire tail end of the fish go down as one last big bite!) They are trying to feed their youngster, but she needs to come to the nest! I will post another collage when I can get a new s'cap of the fledgling (hopefully while she's in flight!)

Edit - I brought up the cam one last time and there she was! Picking at some nestovers of the bird variety. I'm still going to wait and do the next collage using a s'cap of her in flight. If anyone has a s'cap or picture that I can use, please let me know!

I finally found all of the eaglets awake at the Hays nest!

The rain of yesterday is gone at the White Rock nest. The adult feathers are starting to come in on the babies. And they are side by side... Again!

I got some pretty good s'caps at the Scottish Wildlife Trust's Loch of the Lowes Osprey nest today. Not much happening at first.

Of course, I missed a position change...

But then the adult stood up and I got one quick capture before it settled back down on the eggs.

There must have been another raptor in the area, because the adult stood up again and took off.

And then, such a wonderful thing (even though it's Saturday) zoomer gave us a close-up of the eggs. I don't see any pip hole or cracks yet...

The adult returned rather quickly. See how the talons are curled in, so as to not damage the eggs.

The other adult came to the nest...

Another close-up view of the eggs. This shows a slightly different side of the eggs since the adult had done an egg roll before laying down after the previous close-up. Still no pips or cracks...

I'm guessing this is Dad. I'll just say that he wasn't as delicate getting into position on the eggs...

And then, while I was watching, camera viewing disaster struck! The adult had been futzing with this big clump of moss. I guess it wasn't in the right place because it stood, took the clump of moss and turned to the right with it...

...and placed it directly in the way of the camera!!! NOOOOO!!!!!

Sure, the Osprey has a better view now. But what about me?!?! Hopefully, the other parent will think it belongs somewhere else and will move it...
