Berry College Eagles Day 4&5 Some Sibling Rivalry, Harrison Bay Eagles Incubation Continues, Northeast Florida Eagles Day 57&59 Getting Big, Southwest Florida Eagles Day 23&24 Bood-ends, Bald Eagle HK

I made the rounds of a few cams today. The Berry College pantry is well stocked!

Mom fed for a while, then finally offered some pieces to the chicks. But she was so far away, they couldn't reach. She eventually stepped closer with some bites for the chicks.

One of the chicks was trying so hard to climb out of the nest bowl to get some food. The other chick kept grabbing its butt! (A little sibling rivalry, but no harm done.) Check out I'm Trying To Climb Out & You're Not Helping! (2:32)

Technically, Harrison Bay Eagles will be in hatch watch in a week and a half. But I'm thinking we won't see a hatch for almost two weeks...

The Northeast Florida Eaglets are so big already! They are almost two months old. They must be getting plenty of food, neither seemed interested in feeding and the parent was left to eat in peace.

The Southwest Florida Eaglets were like book-ends in the nest.

There's a new post today for Bald Eagle HK. I am so hoping for an egg this year!

Southwest Florida Eagles Day 22&23 A Good Day, Africam Black Eagles New Pictures

I watched the Southwest Florida Eagle nest for a few hours today. I saw some sibling rivalry, but nothing too bad. It looks like E8 is learning to lay low until E7 has been fed. I saw E8 get plenty of food today. I didn't see anything too concerning while I was watching and E8 seems to be in fine shape. Here's my s'caps from the day. Mombrellas are good at shading the babies from the hot sun:

That is a HUGE crop on E8! Being fed here by Dad while Mom feeds E7.

Afterward, Mom dropped down onto a branch and did some feaking. She better be careful with her tongue hanging out the side!

Southwest Florida Eagles Day 21&22 Sibling Rivalry And Plenty Of Food, Bald Eagle HK And Mystery Woman, DC Eagles New Web Cam, Loch Of The Lowes Tracking Update

There is some sibling rivalry at the Southwest Florida Eagle nest. E7 is beating up E8. I also heard some concern about E8 not getting any food. But there were 5 fish delivered to the nest today. As long as food is plentiful, E7 will get its fill and leave E8 alone to eat. There was a good feeding for E8 this evening. E7's crop is huge and E8 was left alone to eat.

There's another post today about Bald Eagle HK, and he's carrying on with a new woman... I want to see an egg in his nest, and if Sterling won't give him one, maybe this new lady will...

I checked in at the DC  Eagle nest yesterday. I'm so happy to see that they have this nest on a cam now! They have two eggs, laid on 2/10 and early 2/14. Will they lay a third egg? The time to watch to find out is overnight tonight into tomorrow... It looks like the cam is of good quality and gives a good view of the nest.

Berry College Eagles Pip! & Intruder, Southwest Florida Eagles Day 17&18 E8 Returns To Nest, Bald Eagles HK And Sterling, Africam Black Eagles

I got a really nice view of the pip in the egg at the Berry College Eagle nest this evening. There is a possible crack too! Here's some s'caps:

The view gets better as Mom rolls it.

It moved like it was grass... But that's still a nice pip!

I'm going to record overnight, even though it's hard to see any details under the IR light...

There was other excitement at the Berry College nest today. An intruder did a fly-by of the nest and I got the video as Mom Defends Nest Against Intruder! (4:39)

At the Southwest Florida Eagle nest, E8 was returned to the nest! When I brought up the cam, both chicks were clearly visible in the nest. But I just sat watching instead of getting a s'cap. Then I thought about it after Mom began hovering over them. But you can still see one at 11 o'clock and one at 7 o'clock.

The wildlife rehabilitators at CROW posted some pictures of E8 having breakfast. Click on the pictures to see the full picture. The rehabbers are wearing a veil so the chick doesn't get habituated to humans. Here are their pictures of E8 being returned to the nest. And they posted GoPro video of the renesting. Unfortunately, it was chest mounted instead of head mounted, so we get to see a lot of the controls for the lift. But they did show E7 giving E8 and welcoming bonk!

There are some new pictures of the Africam Black Eagles. It seems they stay in their territory year round. They need to do some major nestorations after that storm, so it's good that they are still there.

Berry College Eagles Still On Hatch Watch, Southwest Florida Eagles Day 16&17 E8 Update And Video

Berry College is still on hatch watch. I don't even see a pip... Today was day 36. Hatch usually occurs between day 33 and 38. The first egg usually takes more days to hatch as a result due to delayed incubation. Hopefully, we will see a pip tomorrow! They do have the ability to zoom in, but they don't. So, this is as good as it got today...

Southwest Florida Eagles Day 13&14 E8 Removed From Nest For Treatment, Berry College Eagles Hatch Watch!, Africam Black Eagles Update, Great Backyard Bird Count

At the Southwest Florida Eagle nest, E8 was removed from the nest and taken to CROW, the same place that treated Bald Eagle Ozzie. They did find that he was tangled in fishing line. I do understand that sometimes fishing line breaks. If an Eagle then catches that fish and takes it to the nest, it brings the fishing line with it. Unfortunately, as long as people fish, that's a danger. But I do want to urge people to discard of fishing line properly. A lot of fishing spots have receptacles just for fishing line. If so, please use them. If not, please collect fishing line and place it in the trash. Here's a link to a video showing the removal of E8 from the nest. Here's a link to a news story with an interview of Heather Barron, CROW Hospital Director. She did the actual removal of E8 from the nest. She also removed the fishing line and a couple of fish that might have been the source of the fishing line. Hopefully, E8 will have a full recovery and be returned soon to the nest. The Berry College Eagles are on hatch watch! I think we should see a pip by tomorrow night. I got some video today of some Back-up Singers (1:37). Here's some s'caps from today. There was a dusting of snow this morning:

There is an update for the Africam Black Eagles. There are 3 pictures included. There is a side-by-side comparison of the nest before the big storm and after the big storm. Wow!

The Great Backyard Bird Count is the weekend, Friday through Monday. You can observe for as few as 15 minutes, or longer if you like.

Southwest Florida Eagles Day 13&14 E8's Leg Is Tangled, Upper Mississippi River Eagles Broody Parents

At the Southwest Florida Eagle nest, E8's leg is tangled in some of the soft grasses. There may be fishing line in there. The chick is trying to move around and can only spin in a circle. This could cause the tangle to tighten and compromise circulation to that foot. Hopefully, the situation will resolve. Florida's wildlife services have been notified. Here, E8 is going in one direction, but its left foot is stuck:

It's hard to see what's got it stuck there.

This is the baby's rump and it looks like the foot is twisted around.

It looks like it's pointing in the right directions here, but at an awkward angle.

At the Upper Mississippi River Eagle nest, Mom put her back to the wind last night. Check out the Tail Wave (3:59) video. I also got some really great s'caps from there today. During the night, Mom woke up and was calling, defending the nest from something off camera.

There was some snow for a while, but no accumulation.

In the morning, one of the other Eagles was determined to incubate, even though the sitting parent didn't move.

I don't know if these are the same two Eagles feeling broody.

Berry College Eagles Incubating, Harrison Bay Eagles Incubating, Northeast Florida Eagles Day 45&47, Southwest Florida Eagles Day 11&12 Wingercizing, Upper Mississippi River Eagles Incubating and Mating Video

I did a tour of the nests that I follow. Here's what's happening:

Berry College Eagles continue to incubate their two eggs. Today is day 28 and 31 since the eggs were laid. Expect hatch watch to start when the first laid egg is at day 33, but with delayed incubation I wouldn't really expect to see a hatch until day 34 or 35...

The Harrison Bay Eagles have only been incubating their two eggs a little over a week. So, they still have a while to go... 

The Northeast Florida Eaglets are growing in their feathers.

They are wingercizing now.

I caught the family together at the Southwest Florida nest. Dad brought in some soft grass and placed it between him and Mom.

It rained later in the day, and Mom-brella kept the babies dry.

It is so hard to see any eggs at the Upper Mississippi River nest. I caught a nest exchange, but still couldn't see anything. I think they have 2 eggs. If they will lay a third, it will be tomorrow.

This is the best shot of any possible eggs after recording this nest for about 5 hours today. It looks like one egg is visible. There was a point today when no eagles were on the nest, and no eggs could be seen... It must be a deep nest bowl. Maybe they will position the camera better next year...

I did find a video that the Stewards posted of mating at this nest. I wondered if there was competition between the two males to father the babies and found out that there is. Check out this video.
