The Berry College Bald Eagle chick is 3 weeks old today! The baby is now changing so fast that you can see the difference from one day to the next. First some screen captures from yesterday, 3/14, day 20:
Not much in the way of guard rails yet. I haven't seen hardly any sticks being brought to the nest. I'm starting to get worried since the little one is venturing out now...
Hanging out with Mom:
Being fed:
I thought this was a cute picture:
It always cracks me up when they sit like this:
The baby has had a big day... Sitting up:
Flapping tiny wings:
Stretching...
What a long day full of activities. Time to snuggle with Mom:
It was day 21 today. First some screen captures from today. Can you see the difference just between yesterday and today?
I love these big stretches. Growing babies eat, sleep, poop, stretch, and preen a lot!
Look at those feet!
Dad spent a long time feeding the baby this evening:
This is the approach cam. You can see Dad in the nest. You can get to the approach cam from the nest cam page:
Look at the size of that crop! This baby is stuffed to the gills!
Mom came back to take the overnight shift. She brought another Coot with her. She tried to feed the baby, and the baby took a few bites from her because she was being pretty insistent. But she ended up having a good meal for herself. I couldn't pick a favorite between these two s'caps. So, I'm keeping them both. Mom on the left, Dad on the right. Dad looks better in the top one, Mom in the bottom...
Or, I could just magically combine them... Yeah, I like that! It even looks like they are looking at each other...
Mom seems really restless tonight. We even had a shift change, Dad came in and Mom left and perched above the nest. I wonder what's going on.
That was earlier. Here's the current situation. Baby home alone:
But both Mom and Dad are perched above the nest keeping watch.
Here's my favorite thing! Comparison pictures of the baby each week since hatch:
People on the ground got some great pictures of the sub-adult that was giving Mom Berry fits the other day. Here is an amazing picture of the 3-4 year old intruder, perched above the nest and Mom in the nest with her wings spread protectively over the eaglet. And here is the intruder flying away after Dad returned to the nest. That's a beautiful Bald Eagle -- I hope it found a better place to perch!
Bald Eagle Camellia checked in. His transmitter seems to be working great still!
I recently went to a beginner's chicken keeping class taught by Carol Bartram. She did a guest blog entry about chickens on The Gardener's Workshop.
