Mom was trying so hard to incubate the babies. But they are getting so big -- the one on the left just wouldn't fit under Mom. So she pulled some soft grasses in close to help keep the babies warm.
The one in the back is sleeping with its head flopped back and turned sideways.
This prey item was brought to the nest. It was partially eaten already. I think that its head is intact. It's got a long skinny tail. I'm not sure if its a gopher, nutria or rat... But I'm pretty sure it's some kind of rodent...
I watched all day hoping to see what they would do with that long, skinny tail. Here's a video. (13:07)
The babies were intently watching Mom when she hopped up onto the front branch to leave. That gave me an opportunity to get a couple of s'caps.
Here's a news story about the Pennsylvania Bald Eagle nest. Mom was buried up to her neck in snow to keep her eggs warm.
