Southwest Florida Eagles Day 2&3 Brood Wars

I've got a few s'caps from today from the Southwest Florida nest. It was such a rainy day. Here's Mom, during the overnight hours, trying to make herself as large as possible to shield her babies from the rain.

Mom did a feeding during a break in the rain.

Dad came to the nest while it was still pretty dark. He wanted to take over brooding the babies. But Mom didn't want to give up the nest. There was a "conversation" and they settled the matter. Here's a link to the Brood Wars video (14:48).

The Africam Black Eagle chick was having an easy morning.

Mom Dyfi Osprey was enjoying a fish this morning.

While Mom was on the high perch behind the nest, one of the babies was in the nest and another Osprey was on the low perch to the left.

The parents stayed in the nest tree overnight.

The parents spent some time in the nest and perched in the nest tree branches.

It was already very bright when the infrared camera turned off.

Later in the day, they were across the way in the large pine tree.

They both left that tree...

...and settled in on the branches of the nest tree for the night.

The Soddy Daisy Bluebirds are filling up the nest box. I got two faces...

...3 faces...

 

 ...all 4 faces! Well, parts of all 4 faces. Good enough!

Dad White-bellied Sea Eagle will come to the nest and fly off with a fish. This morning when Dad arrived at the nest, Mom got up and took one fish...

...and took another fish so Dad couldn't fly off with either.

Dad left and Mom fed the chicks.

The chicks are sizing each other up for some bopping.

This is right before they did some hair pulling.

Dad came back and grabbed a fish and left with it.

Mom came around for this feeding and we can see the chicks.

A family s'cap!

These babies are so cute!

Dad was having a hard time trying to figure out how to brood these growing babies. He made several false starts and ended up just hovering over the chicks.

Mom must have come back because he got up, grabbed a fish, ran across the nest, and took off. And sure enough, Mom appeared a few minutes later. Here's Dad taking off with the fish.

I was home this morning and was able to get some good views of the Africam Black Eagle chick. There was a big stretch before standing up.

I love the leggings on these birds!

The flight feathers on the wing are coming in great!

Here's all three Dyfi Osplets in the nest.

Then one-by-one, they took off.

One of the Harrison Bay Eaglets was at the nest this afternoon.

The Eaglet did a call that started to sound like an adult calling. It's like the Eaglet is going through Puberty (1:30):

This is the same Eaglet, hiding in the shadows...

There were quite a few comings and goings at the Scottish Wildlife Trust's Loch of the Lowes Osprey nest today.

I think they are enjoying their new-found freedom.

And with this departure, the nest is empty.

The Soddy Daisy Bluebirds are just hairy blobs at this stage. They aren't being brooded much during the day, probably because the temps are so warm. That allows Mom to go foraging for food for her babies.

It's less than a week for hatch watch at the White-bellied Sea Eagle nest. I'm so eggcited I can hardly stand it! The White-bellied Sea Eagle chick is the cutest thing ever! For now, incubation continues...

Nobody was home at the White Rock Eagle nest today, but the light was pretty and the nest was... GONE! It has been falling apart. And last year a lot of the nest fell away. But now it is completely GONE!!!

We will have to see what next year brings...
