White-bellied Sea Eagle Day 4

It's a wet, wet day at the White-bellied Sea Eagle nest. It's day 4 for S13. It started raining at some point during the overnight hours.

It was still raining after the sun came up. Mombrella is trying to keep the baby dry.

Later in the day, it was raining hard enough that the rain was dripping off of Mom's beak.

We got a zoomed in view of the food in the nest. Males go into overdrive provider-mode when a chick hatches...

This prey item looks like a small, plucked bird.

It started raining a lot harder. The rain almost looks to be pooling on Mom's back.

Mom's feathers are keeping her nice and dry. Her wings are spread out trying to keep the nest bowl dry.

The rain is making her blink a lot.

The rain finally stopped and Mom was able to take a break. She was gone for a little while -- I'm sure she was stretching her wings and trying to dry off a little bit. And we got to see a very wet baby!

The rain washed off that dirty neck that I commented on yesterday.

The baby didn't seem cold. It was very active, moving around the nest bowl and looking in different directions.

The rain washed off its dirty neck!

Mom returned after a short break. She's still pretty wet.

The baby is probably hungry, but Mom has other ideas...

She got right back to keeping the baby warm...

I checked back before posting to see if the baby had been fed yet and found Dad on the nest. Look at how nice and dry he is. That was often the case at the Norfolk Bald Eagle nest. Mom would get soaked and Dad would stay dry...
