There were a couple of visits to the nest today by a fledgling. There's no way to tell which one it is any more. There is a general feeling that the first fledge hasn't returned to the nest yet. It might not mean anything if that's the case. If it is ok, it should return eventually. We will only know at this point if they are both seen together... Some screen captures from today. The eaglet and the Blue Jay spent a few moments eye-balling each other. Have they called a truce?
Not a chance! This series, a couple of minutes later, is the Blue Jay attacking the fledgling. And they had been getting along so well... You can see the Blue Jay coming in from behind and the eaglet doesn't suspect a thing.
Then suddenly, thump in the back. The Blue Jay is actually on the eaglets back.
And here it's right behind the eaglets head, veering away after bouncing off its back.
Eventually the little pest goes away and everything is right with the eaglet's world. It has just eaten a big fish for lunch. It is resting in the nest. Not because it can't leave. But because it chooses to stay...
The Harrison Bay eaglets are past the half-way point of being stuck in the nest tree. They will fledge in another 5-6 weeks...
And the White Rock babies are bringing up the rear of the three Bald Eagle nests that I'm following this year. They still have quite a way to go.
Here, the parent looks funny while shaking.
The Berry College Bluebirds look like grown-up birds today. It's amazing how fast they grow up! That's one of the parents in the top right corner.
