Berry College Eagles Day 91&93, Berry College Bluebirds

I have mentioned before that the first lesson a new fledgling needs to learn is how to land. And they need to learn it right away! It's fairly common for an eaglet to miss a landing, with a funny result. This picture on the Berry College Facebook page is the first Fledgling the day after fledging.

I think today that we saw both eaglets at the nest. Their tails have different patterns of white. Here's a nest visit this morning. See how the white is kind of wide:

With the tail feathers spread a little bit, the white kind of forms lines, with a sharp white line on the inside edge of the patch of white that's on the left.

Then there's a visit later in the day. This one seems to have some white just on the left with a really bright spot of white. Or is it the late afternoon light? I'm going to concentrate on getting s'caps of tails during future visits and see if I can determine for sure that both are visiting the nest.

There was a tug of war moment during this meal. I thought the fledgling was going to tumble out of the nest. Here's the Tug Of War video (0:49):

Then Dad gave us a funny moment. Check out this video. He needs to feak. I think he's got some squirrel on his beak. Dad Looks Funny checking out the cam (2:23).

I put together some highlights from the Berry College Bluebird nest today. There's poop, wingercizing, and a brave/lucky bug... Here's the Bluebird Poop, Wingercize & Lucky Bug video (3:17):

Here's some stills from today. They look like they are standing in line here:

So hard to get all four faces...

They crowd together for warmth when it's cool. And they crowd together away from the sunny side when it's warm.

Grumpy face!

This is the poop pose.

Mom watches for this and jumps down and removes the poop packet from the nest. She will take it far enough away so that predators can't tell where the nest is.

I finally got all four faces, and used this s'cap for the thumbnail for the video above.
