I went back and reviewed the Berry College Bluebirds while they were fledging yesterday. I was going to try to put together a video of them fledging. But so many times it would look like one had left then it would appear again. It's amazing that they can hide in such a cramped nest box. Since I couldn't put together a video, I instead have some s'caps from the day. Dawn showed four in the nest.
Mom did bring one of the babies a big, juicy bug for breakfast.
Even with such a crowd they found a way to stretch. There was also a lot of jumping and jostling as they tried to get out of the nest box.
Eventually, there were only three in the nest box.
Then there was only one.
The last to fledge only stayed in the nest box by itself for about 12 minutes. Then it too was gone.
I am monitoring the Scottish Wildlife Trust's Loch of the Lowes Osprey nest. We are on Hatch Watch now! If you are a fan of the Berry College Eagles and Bluebirds and are suffering from Empty Nest Syndrome, this might be a good nest to start watching. The scenery on the cam is beautiful. It's a PTZ cam and they zoom in to check the eggs when the adults provide an opportunity. And they've got sound at this nest. It's 11:45PM here on the east coast right now and this is the scene there at sunrise for them. It looks like the start of a beautiful day!
