Berry College Eaglet Day 60, Hatch In Progress At White Rock Bald Eagle Nest

It's day 60 for the Berry College Bald Eagle. I saw food come to the nest three times today and each time the eaglet rushed over to grab the food. But each time, the parent wouldn't give up the food and instead continues to feed the chick. Here's three s'caps of the chick rushing the parent each time. And the parent is flapping to keep from being run off of the nest. Eventually, the eaglet will grab the food and mantle over it -- and be left alone to feed itself.

For now, the parent is still feeding the eaglet.

You can see the baby stretched out under the adult, trying to take the food.

But the eaglet couldn't get it and is still being fed by the adult.

 Wingercizing!

 Look at that wing span!

That's a big bird.

Hanging out, wings spread to keep cool.

Spending time with Mom:

The eaglet has this entire nest, but chooses to stand on the edge. It's a phase that they all go through. I've learned to not have a heart attack when they do this...

There's a hatch in progress at the White Rock nest! The adult just flew from the nest and I got this really good look at the egg with a big crack in it:

I did get a few other looks at the eggs. The adult is very restless today -- paying a lot of attention to the eggs.

Up and down. Up and down.

Other interesting s'caps from this nest today. Looking at something:

I don't know what was happening here. I expected something to happen, but then nothing did...

I got to see a nest exchange. Based on size, I'd say Dad was on the nest and Mom flew in. Dad kept trying to get comfortable on the eggs. Mom kept pacing around giving Dad the eye, waiting for him to get out of the way. Finally, Dad backed off of the eggs and Mom settled right in. Here he is trying to settle in even though Mom wants him to move.

This looks like the same pic as above. But in between the two captures, Mom walked to the back and then back to the front to look at Dad again.
